Goodbye, and Thank you.

Well, I think that it's probably time I moved on...

So before I leave, I just wanted to give a quick thank you and clarify something to everyone:

First is the clarification:

I will still be on LU, just not as much. All my time will be devoted to the Eternal Nexus Clan (link below) and doing some of my own things. My current projects for the summer are:

1. Making my OWN video game. (20% done)
2. Starting a commentary series (Not for LU, but for Portal 2, Terraria, etc.)
www.eternalnexus.forumotion.com

Here are the thank you's:

Thank you to the Lego Company; for letting me keep this blog up and running. I am sure I've broken numerous copyrights with all of the images, but the team never felt the need to contact me about them. Thank you also for putting so much all of your time into making this great game that kids of all ages can enjoy. It definitely leaves a lasting impression and it will be one of the games I tell my kids about when I'm older. :)

Thank you to the viewers; because just by commenting, reading, or just giving the page a quick glance, you have helped keep this blog going for as long as it has. My original goal for page views, was going to be 300 a month. Guess what the average is now? 3,071 page views per month. That's overachieving if I ever saw it. And in a total of 5.5 months of this blog being run, the total number is 14,541! Now, as if that weren't enough, take a look at the map below. All areas in green are countries with over 750 pageviews on this blog. All countries in dark green have over 10,000. So not only has this blog reached the US, it has reached Australia, Russia, Germany, UK, Iceland, and Italy. WOW. Not to mention that the blog has been viewed on 9 different platforms ranging from Windows to the Ipad.

So, that's it for me. I did forget one thing though, my Lego ID is cwz99. So if you want, look me up on MLN or something. I never log into it anymore though.

That's all I wanted to say. Have fun playing!

And for the last time,

This is Zorkonian12 signing off.

I was looking at the "Lego Universe Cheats" blog and saw that the author had a pretty good idea going. Week Long Shutdown

Hello All,

During the next week (6/26/11 - 7/2/11) the blog will not be updated because I will out of town without internet access (AAAAAH! I'm going to die!). Sorry for any inconveniences this causes. You can always look back at older posts if you need too.

Spam Rules

Sad to say it, but this blog seems to be getting more and more spam everyday. For those of you who do not know what spamming is, it is the posting of a useless comment that is either unhelpful, discouraging, or just plain annoying.

These are now the rules for spam posting on this blog:

THESE COMMENTS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED:

  1. Comments that have more than three exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. COMMENTS THAT ARE WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS
  3. Comments that are unhelpful and annoying
So please, if you post a spam comment, realize that you are wasting both my time and yours as the comment will under no circumstances be published.

Some examples of the spam comments I have gotten recently on the Make Money Faster post:

  • "MONEY IS HARD TO GET SO JUST EARN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  • "GET MONEY THAT IS HOW TO GET MONEY?!?!?!?!"
  • "why?!? CAN'T YOU GET IT YOUR SELF!"
Thank you.

New Free Trial Version of LU Coming Soon!

According the featured community article on the LU website there will be a free version of Lego Universe coming soon to give players a 'taste' of what Lego Universe is like. The free version will include the Venture Explorer map, the Avant Gardens map, and the Avant Gardens property. All features will be available to players in each world. However, free players will not be able to leave Avant Gardens or go anywhere else. The free version will never expire so you can experience Lego Universe at your own pace.

I am personally against this free version of Lego Universe. They originally said that they would not 'segregate' players based on their financial payments. While this does give players who could not originally afford Lego Universe a chance to experience it, it will also eventually lead to member vs. non-member fights and arguments. I am hoping that when Lego releases this version they will also add a new batch of servers so that paying members and free players will at least be separated, then there won't be any fights.

I am not against the idea just because I don't want to be playing with people who aren't paying for their game time (I honestly don't care about that), it is just because I am hoping that Lego Universe will not turn into a big battleground for 'higher' and 'lower' class players.

Fraud Notice

Hello All,

Just so you know there might be other copies of the Lego Universe Commentaries floating around Youtube that are exactly the same as the ones on Metacafe. These were NOT published by me, and none of our videos are ever posted on Youtube. Thank you for understanding, I will try to make sure that the 'fraudulent' copies get down soon.

Maelstrom Monster Biography

History: During the early days of the Nexus Force, an accidental explosion broke tubes pumping Maelstrom energy into the Paradox Research Facility in Avant Gardens. The essence of chaos and destruction swirled around its Paradox researchers, who were studying the dark powers of the Maelstrom hoping to find a weakness. Seeing an opportunity, the Darkitect reached out with the Maelstrom and memorized their forms, mimicking their makeup to recreate them in the chaotic image of the Maelstrom. The results were beings that appeared as twisted Minifigures glowing with dark Maelstrom energy – creatures now known as Stromlings.

As footsoldiers of the Darkitect, new Stromlings are constantly being formed in the dark clouds of the Maelstrom. Due to the chaotic nature of Maelstrom energy, no two look quite the same.

Stats: 1 Life Points, 0 Armor Points

Attacks: Short ranged swipe that deals 1 damage.

Tactics: Though relatively weak on their own, basic Stromlings can be surprisingly dangerous when they surround a Minifigure without advanced protective gear. If you find yourself surrounded by Stromlings, double-jump away until you are facing all of them – their slow speed should allow you to either find a good place to smash them all from one angle, or easily escape.

When in Avant Gardens, it is wise to look over your shoulder occasionally to check if you’ve got a Stromling tailing you. Those attempting the Survival mission for Melodie Foxtrot may encounter Stromlings wielding chainsaws or hammers. Use the same strategy for these Stromlings, but watch out for the increased damage of their attacks.

Though Bjorn Fjord swears by his beard that a well-performed electic guitar solo will stun Stromlings in place, this has not been confirmed by Paradox scientists, and is therefore not a strategy endorsed by the Paradox.

This is another new series of informative posts from the developers. It gives the stats and little bit of background information on each enemy. Today, we are starting with the stromling!

Lego Universe Commentaries: Now Public!

It's been a long wait since I announced the possibility of Lego Universe Commentaries. But now they are finally here! The videos will be hosted by Metacafe, and I have my own mini-channel there. I have even set up an entirely new blog for the updates and news on the commentaries! The new official website for the commentaries is:

Don't worry, I will still post on this blog too! The commentaries are just something a little extra. I may even have them out for download soon!

The first commentary takes place at Nexus Tower (and I'll be honest, it IS a little boring), and I complete a few missions there. Hopefully soon though, Smashed will be able to join in on the commentaries and it will make them much more interesting.

Here is the url for the first commentary. Enjoy! And don't forget to rate up on Metacafe!

Poll Results: New World!

Last months poll was "What kind of world do you think should be added next?". We got a LOT more votes than months in the past, so lets tally up the totals!

Lego Set Themed---------------8 (34%)
Storyline World-----------------3 (13%)
Social World---------------------2 (8%)
Battle World---------------------10 (43%)

The type of world (according to the fans) that should come next, is another battle world! I guess you guys like to battle the Maelstrom a lot. Once again, thanks for voting! Next months poll has not been decided yet, but it will be up soon!

Draw or build your Favorite Faction Leader!

First off, very sorry about the huge lack of posts in the last couple weeks. It was due to a combination of final exams and another surprise I have been working on. The "surprise" will hopefully come out on June 1st (Same as Nexus Tower!).

This new Lego Contest allows to show off you building or drawing skills! You can draw your favorite faction leader or you can even build them from real bricks or from virtual ones! And, as always, you can build it on your property, at home in your living room, or in LDD. This contest has some pretty cool prizes too. You will also be awarded a couple in game shirts to wear around. They are the Paparazzi, the Photojouralist, and the Bricksel Adams. Each one will boost your imagination by at least 2.

Have fun drawing and building!

Coming Soon: Vaults and Safes!

It sounds like the LEGO Developers have finally listened to the players and are adding a new bank/vault system to the Universe. It will be released when Nexus Tower comes out and its base of operation will be Nexus Tower also. So if you have any extra items that you don't need, but want to keep (like me) you can put them in the vault and you can come and get them at any time! The system can also be set up on any of your claimed properties, allowing you easier access to your storage space! Awesome!

Here is the offical article on vaults and banks:

You’ve asked for it, and so now you’re getting it: more space for your stuff! Dr. Overbuild has been working non-stop on a new Vault and Safe system! This new storage system will allow you to safely store away extra items into your own private Vault in Nexus Tower. The Darkitect would love to get his hands on the contents of the Vaults, but never fear! The Sentinels are standing guard to make sure only YOU can access your personal Vault!

Before you can access the Vault system, you will need to first speak to Nexus Naomi, Nexus Tower’s Artificial Intelligence. She will guide you to meet your Faction Leader, who will give you a series of missions. After you receive approval from your Faction Leader to use the Vault system, find Nexus Naomi near the Sentinel Faction HQ. She will help you open up your Vault account –and has a complimentary toaster model for you too!

The standard Vault size begins with 40 slots for general items (like gear or consumables) and 40 slots for your models. If you find yourself needing even more space, talk to Nexus Naomi again, who will give you some Missions to expand the size of your Vault! You can expand your Vault up to 240 slots for general items and 240 for your models!

That’s not all! Complete even more Nexus Tower Missions, and you will be able to access a special Safe on all of your claimed Properties! Your Safe will allow you to access your Vault and all of the items inside. Property visitors will be able to see the Safe on your Property, but only you will be able to use your Safe on your claimed Properties!

Keep up your Brick Donations to complete the construction of Nexus Tower. When the Tower is done, you’ll be able to finally find a place for all of that extra stuff you’ve been carrying around. And this is only the beginning!

Discuss this article on the message boards!

Dr. Overbuild's Nexus Diary (Week 1)

Here is the all new Nexus Tower diary from Dr. Overbuild! This is a new series of articles that just came out today. I hope you enjoy it!

Duke Exeter thought it would be a good idea for me to chronicle the completion of Nexus Tower. So for future builders, here we go!

First, you may wonder, why build a massive tower on Crux Prime- a planet which is swarming with the Maelstrom? Well, the Imagination Nexus of course! It's the original, pure source of Imagination in the Universe and it must be protected!

Construction on Nexus Tower was going well, but we started to run short of bricks. Hael Storm proposed a vast collection of bricks from Minifigures across the Universe, and Duke Exeter has agreed to lead the effort! We've put out a call to all Minifigures to donate bricks and help finish Nexus Tower There is even a competition to see who can donate the most bricks!

I'm a little worried about the Bank we were building in Nexus Tower. I am just not sure it is safe enough! What if Nexus Tower were under attack? We must protect everyone’s gear and deposits!!. Duke Exeter had the great idea to make the Bank into a Vault instead. What is the difference between a Bank and a Vault? Why, rocket engines, of course!

Bricks have been arriving daily on the cargo ships out of Nimbus Station, and now progress on the Tower is moving at an accelerated rate! After a week of donations, redontop, Ninewells and huss1 have donated over 2,234,000 bricks combined!

Check back next week for another update!

Nexus Tower Sneak Peek!

With Nexus Tower about 50% complete, a sneak peek of the inside of Nexus Tower was just released by Lego! It is in the form of a message from the tower's AI (Artificial Intelligence) named Nexus Naomi. Here is the official article, including pictures.

Hello Minifigures,

You may call me Nexus Naomi. I am the Nexus Tower Artificial Intelligence created by Dr. Overbuild. My purpose is to serve as a guide to all Minifigures who have come to Nexus Tower.

Each of the Faction Headquarters is located inside Nexus Tower. There, you will be able to meet the Faction Leaders for the very first time. Duke Exeter, Hael Storm, Vanda Darkflame and Dr. Overbuild cannot wait to meet all of their loyal Faction members. Each has many Missions for you to complete, including some unique, top-secret Faction-only Missions for the most loyal members of the Nexus Force!

Nexus Tower is also a important destination for all of your shopping needs. More than a dozen new vendors are waiting to sell you exciting new gear and consumables! You will also find additional Faction vendors in the Tower – they sell the Rank 3 kits which were previously sold in Nimbus Station, but they will also have new items like Valiant Weapons! Valiant Weapons are the most powerful weapons created so far, but you’ll need both hands – and a lot of Tokens – to wield them! In addition, a completely new Vendor, Admiral Honor Accolade, is setting up his shop in the Sentinel area. He specializes in Mission and Achievement reward items that you have previously earned.

Are you concerned with where you will put all of these new items? I have just been authorized to disclose the new Vault system that is being finalized! Each Minifigure will be able to open a Vault account where you can safely store your extra items, and you will be able to pull them out whenever you wish. The Faction Leaders may also help you to construct a Property Safe, which will allow you to securely access your Vault from any of your claimed Properties.

The last piece of information which I have received clearance to disclose is that Dr. Overbuild has even more plans to expand Nexus Tower. Once the Tower is completed, you will be able to use it as a launching point to Nimbus Station, Crux Prime, Starbase 3001 and LEGO Club, but new destinations will be added soon!

As Adventurers and Explorers, you understand that the Universe is vast and there are always uncharted territories. Nexus Tower is being built to become the launching point for all future exploration and expansions. Be prepared for the adventure of your life.

Nexus Naomi

So, what do you think? I now that I'm excited! Plus, the release is just right around the corner!

Slow Posting

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the lack of content and post update for the past week, it has been hard for me to update regularly because of school work and other things. From now on, (at least until the end of May) the posting may be a little slow since I have SOL's and Final Exams to work on now. But once we are out of May, the posting will probably resume to its regular timing. Thanks for understanding!

Dragonmaw Grand Prix: This Weekend!

Thought that racing competitions ended when March did? Think again! The first contest for this month is a racing prix in Dragonmaw Chasm. You will compete viciously and (hopefully) knock out the competition! Here is the official Lego article on the challenge:

Shortcuts and detours will lead you through the treacherous depths of Forbidden Valley, and up the branches of The Great Tree. Smashing Dragon eggs will earn you Imagination for your speed booster. Dragon Spirits with a red tint will make your race car go BOOM! Cunning and quickness might lead to blazing LEGO City prizes at stake for the Dragonmaw Chasm Racing Grand Prix this weekend.

Be aware that Velocity Lane holds the key to the Dragonmaw Chasm Racetrack! Racing Ninja Zip, guarding the Forbidden Valley Racetrack, flatly refuses to train you until you have completed enough racing missions for Velocity Lane in Nimbus Station. Zip simply doesn’t believe you’ve got the mad racing skillz needed for Dragonmaw Chasm, until you have proven your worth to Velocity Lane.

Luckily, we have received intel that you have what it takes to master Vertigo Loop in Nimbus Station! So, when you know Vertigo Loop by heart, head to Forbidden Valley for a dangerous challenge! Take the bouncer from the far side of Mantis Rock – across the battle field from where the Mantises live. The Nexus Force recommends that you smash a few Dark Ronin for breakfast on your way there.

Just outside The Dragonmaw Chasm Racetrack stands Racing Vendor Yam Waterwolf – he sells groovy car parts! Maybe you feel like building yourself a Mach Lava or a Fire Brawl racer? And give it your absolute best on the Dragonmaw Chasm Racetrack!

The top 20 fastest drivers across all 3 Universes will win awesome prizes!

Good luck everyone!

Almost forgot the list of prizes!

Poll Results: Hardest Enemy!

The poll for this month was which enemy you thought was the hardest. The results have just been counted and we had a total of 14 votes (better than last month at least). The hardest enemy voted by you was...

Butterscorch!

Here are the other poll totals:

Butterscorch----10 votes (71%)
Roo Morgg-----2 votes (14%)
4 Riders--------2 votes (14%)
Kuckal---------0 votes (0%)

So as you can see, Butterscorch won by a landslide! Thank you all for voting!

Next month's poll will be "what kind of world should be made next?"

May is all about Factions!

In this month of May, Lego Universe will be focusing on the factions! The contest calendar has been posted, and there are some exciting things planned for this month. There is going to be a wide variety of contests, but they will all be related to your faction! Here is the official contest calendar for this month!

May 3 – until Nexus Tower is done!   Jawbox Brick Donation
All Factions need to participate in the monthly challenge for us to reach the goal of finishing Nexus Tower. It will be the biggest and boldest Minifigure mission seen in LEGO Universe to date! Start collecting bricks today, so you’re ready to make some hefty donations in the Nexus Jawbox! This community mission will kick off with the ‘Build Nexus Tower’ release and end only when Nexus Tower is completed! The 20 top donators win large buckets of LEGO bricks.

May 7 – May 8   Mystery Racetrack Grand Prix
You will be pushing the pedal to the metal somewhere in LEGO Universe... The location is still unknown, but stay posted on LEGOuniverse.com/community, we will reveal the location a few days before the Grand Prix begins! For now, rest assured - it is not going to be easy, but it will be fun! All Factions welcome. Don’t push and shove members of your own Faction too much. Spectacular LEGO City Sets will be yours if you win!

May 14 – May 15   Shooting Gallery Showdown
On your mark. Take aim. Fire! Get the highest score during the weekend of May 14 - May 15 – we will give LEGO City Fire Stations and Fire Rescue vehicles to the best marksmen! Remember, hitting a friendly ship subtracts for your score. It is Venture Leaguers out there; we do not want them to sink! Everything with a purple tint you should hit – oh, and red sea monsters!

May 21 – May 22   Best Faction Screenshot
Snap a screenshot of your Best Faction Moment and share it in the Creation Lab. It could be an image of you with fellow Faction members, showing off your Faction skillz, or maybe you could join forces with other Factions and grab a snapshot which shows how heroic you all are? The 20 best submissions will be picked by the LEGO Universe judging panel and win awesome LEGO Hero Factory prizes! Heroes for heroes – it’s only fair!

May 28 – May 29   Faction Unity – Battle together for Nimbus Station!
In the Battle of Nimbus Station (or, as it is know on the streets of LEGO Universe, ‘BoNS’) defeat the 4 Riders of the Maelstrom to be in the drawing for LEGO Ninjago Sets such as the LEGO Ninjago Battle Arena and LEGO Ninjago Skeleton Bowling. Teamwork is key in this challenge – whether it’s within or across Factions!

Nexus Force Members, get ready to join forces or be prepared to beat the other Factions, and above all, remember to have fun! Let the games begin! Go Nexus Force Minifigures, go!

Community Mission: Jawbox Donation Contest!

As you all know, you need to donate LOTS of bricks to complete Nexus Tower. So why not reward the people who donate the most? That's exactly what Lego is doing. The top 20 contributors to the Nexus Jawbox will win REAL bricks! It's almost like trading in your virtual bricks for real ones! And who wouldn't want to do that? So make sure you start stocking up/buying bricks right now! It's going to take a lot to donate a ton of bricks and become one of the winners! Here is your 'mission' according to the community article. And in case you don't get what "stop" means after each sentence, it was an old term to tell the reader that the sentence ended there. It was usually in telegrams or military messages.

Here’s your mission: Start gathering loads of bricks. Stop. After May 3, talk to Nexus Jay in Nimbus Station. Stop. He will send you on to Kurt Tussle at the Race Place. Stop. Tussle stands right next to the magnificent Nexus Jawbox. Stop. You will drop your bricks into its churning abyss of a mouth! Stop. If you are one of the top donators, you will win… real bricks! Full stop.

Here is the full prize list:

--------------------------------------------------

The top contributor to Nexus Tower wins:

The 2-20 top brick contributors will win buckets of bricks:
1 LEGO Large Brick Box (#5508)
1 LEGO Brick Separator (#630)
1 copy of LEGO® Universe Massively Multiplayer Online Game (#55000)
o An in-game item exclusive to this contest: The Hood of the Mystic
o 20 in-game Faction tokens
.
-------------------------------------------------

But make sure that while your donating bricks, to keep your hand away from the jaws, they could bite your hand off!

Interview with LU Model Designer: Hans Burkhard Schlömer

This a Q&A interview with one of the model designers for Lego Universe! He tells about his past and how he makes the models for Lego Universe. Did you know that the Assembly Personal Fortress was made by him? So whenever you use that power-up ingame, you better be sure to thank him for it!

Hans Burkhard Schlömer (aka Burkhard) is living a childhood dream. He builds with LEGO for a living and sees his creations come to life in LEGO Universe! Read more to find out how he began building with LEGO, how he joined the LEGO family, and tips for aspiring builders!
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your background?
A: I was working as a music teacher for 8 years and played the Trombone semi-professionally. No, it wasn’t hard for me to leave music, because I can keep making music even if I’m not working as a teacher anymore.

Q: What was the first LEGO set you owned?
A: I don’t remember my first, but my parents let me watch the first moon landing on TV when I was a baby (or so they told me). Later my grandparents bought me this huge, BLUE Moon Landing set! While it wasn’t my first set, it was the biggest so far.

Q: Were you always a skilled builder? When did you start free building?
A: Around 1998 I rediscovered my love for building with LEGO. I got my first PC and internet and found many LEGO fan sites, one in particular had mechs. The web owner built about a dozen models based on a table top game with miniatures. One day he just stopped – that’s when I started building my own. Digitally, so I could create building instructions and render pictures. Until then, I hadn’t done much creative building, and my first build since childhood was – surprise - a mech!

Eventually I also created my own website, to display and share my LEGO creations. Going by the artist name of “Primus”, I managed to make quite a name for myself in the fan community as a builder.

Q: What is it about LEGO that you love?
A: The challenge of building something to certain specifications. There always are limitations to overcome – not the right bricks, colors, shapes, or certain “price tags” to meet. You get to be really creative when building with LEGO. I feel a bit like a sculptor, but I just choose to create things with LEGO instead of, say, clay. It’s much more fun. And less dirty!

Q: Some people think if you turn your hobby into a job, it doesn’t become fun anymore. Do you still have fun?
A: I’m not building that much anymore when at home, true - but that’s because I get all my building needs met at work. The only difference is: now I’m even getting paid for having fun!

Q: How did you go from being a music teacher to a professional LEGO builder for LEGO Universe?

A: For many years I was building models for my website as a hobby, training myself to be a professional LEGO builder – without knowing it! Really, I had no idea this would ever turn into an actual job. I joined the LUP program for LEGO Universe and even became team lead of the best team ever: the BETA BLOCKERS! When the time was right, I simply asked LEGO to be hired. Now I’ve been a model designer for LEGO Universe for just over 3 years.

Q: What exactly do you do as a professional LEGO builder?

A: I create digital models for the game based on artwork, short descriptions, or my own imagination. Sometimes an idea that looks good in a drawing doesn’t work in brick at that scale. Then it’s my job to find a solution that is close to the concept art and works in LEGO.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you face in creating models for LEGO Universe?

A: If all I get to work with is a line of text for a description, things can get tough. “A small turret to protect the player” – would you have thought this would eventually turn into the Personal Fortress for Assembly Engineers? I made a few different concepts, and our art director Phil Atencio chose the one that fit his vision the best. Then I gave the model two more passes until everybody was happy. A tough process, but so worth it!

Q: I understand you built the Mach Lava and Fire Brawl, the two new Dragonmaw Chasm themed Race Cars! Which one is your favorite?

A: The Mach Lava because it’s really got character. From a front angle, the spiky pieces look like eyes and teeth! Chomp!

Q: Do you build with LEGO Digital Designer (LDD) or with real bricks?

A: I prefer to build digitally – it saves SO much time. But while many models in LEGO Universe only exist in digital format, it’s also nice to have real LEGO models that you can put on the table and show around. Physical building for me is the second step after building digitally.

Q: Do you have any advice for the aspiring builders out there?

A: Keep your brick collection sorted and organized! Small parts magazines with drawers come in very handy here. Of course, searching for the right bricks is part of building with LEGO, but you want to spend most of your time actually building, not looking for stuff. Oh, also check out LEGO Digital Designer! LDD is free, and easy to use. It has a lot of useful features but is not complicated at all. You get all the bricks you ever wanted in any color. The bricks even automatically snap together!

Q: Can you show us what you’re working on now? :)

A: Now THAT's the hardest part of this job: sometimes I just cannot tell or show what I'm working on! You have to wait until it is in the game. See you in LEGO Universe!

How to Build the Nexus Jawbox! (Before it comes out!)

The Nexus Jawbox is a special model that can only be in Lego Universe for a short time. It's job is to collect bricks from players so the Nexus Tower construction project can be finished. Once the entire community has donated enough bricks, Nexus Tower will be completed! LEGO has released the instructions for you to build the Nexus Jawbox with (for all of you people who can't wait to see it in-game). Once again, and with all models, you can build it on your property, your living room floor, or in the new updated LDD! Have fun building!

Lego Universe Backgrounds!

Using the magic of Photoshop (and images downloaded from the LU site) I have made a set of multiple resolution backgrounds for you to download! Here is a preview:

If you like it, choose the resolution closest to your computers and click on it. That will take you to box.net for the download. Once you have it downloaded, just right click on it and press "set as desktop background". If the resolutions do not match your computer resolution, you can always play around with the background settings in the control panel to make it fit well enough.

2048 x 1152 (highest resolution)
1920 x 1080
1600 x 900
1280 x 720
800 x 600 (a little bit deformed)

Can't find your resolution? Go to start, control panel, search for resolution, click "adjust screen resolution", and it will tell you your current resolution.

Organized Vendors!

Have you ever had to scroll through ALL of those hundred thousand or so bricks that a vendor sells? I have! Thats why Lego decided to make brick vendors a little more organized. You can now find bricks based on Clips, Hand Accessories Hinge & Turntable, and more! You can also even use your buckets to sort bricks and find them more easily from the vendor. With this update (that is coming soon) you will be able to spend more time building and less time searching. Even though this update is small, it should have a big effect on your building productivity in Lego Universe.

Now for download! Sentinel Patcher Theme!

As promised yesterday, I said that I would get the download available for the Sentinel Patcher Theme. Today I uploaded it onto box.net where you can securely download the file. Installing the files is easy, all you need to do is go to this website and download the file. Once you have it downloaded, read the readme (thats why it says readme in ALL CAPS) and follow the instructions there.

My own Patcher Template!

I think that most of you are aware that there are two patcher templates available for download by LegoFan101. They are Assembly and Avant Gardens themed. I was looking at them and kind of got inspired to make my own! I worked hard for about 1 and 1/2 hours and came up with this:

I'm really proud of it! It still needs a few tweaks and stuff, but this will be my patcher from now on! I am still trying to figure out how to get this as a downloadable file that won't completely destroy your current patcher. :) but once I can get it available for download, I will be sure to post something telling you about it.

Thanks for inspiring me LegoFan101! I hope you aren't too mad that I sort of copied your idea. It was a good one!

File Diving (Find #1)

I am going to start a series of file diving finds that will be posted regulary across the site. While I was file diving, I came across the.xml file of the instant chat. Here is a copy and paste directly from it. It is a note to the designers and programmers. It contains a list of animations that may be added to the game? I'm not sure.

*** READ BEFORE EDITING! ***
Designers:
You may enter the id and chatoutput at your liesure. The list of known animations is:
 backflip
 clap
 cringe
 sad
 proud
 gasp
 giggle
 salute
 shrug
 sigh
 talk
 wave
 frustrated
 thanks
 yes
 zap

Support for icons is in the works.
The plan is to have this whole structure put into the database and loaded upon client login
so we don't have people changing the text to other less desirable stuff.  Nesting will also be
   included.

Programmers:
you shouldn't have to do anything

Upcoming Feature: Stories

Since user stories seem to be getting increasingly popular, I decided to start my own. There will be a new page at the top of the site that will contain each of the new stories that I will write. The first story I am going to write will be quite long (maybe 10 chapters) and will take a long time to finish. The chapters will be published upon their completion so there is not such a long wait. Just to get you ready, here is the prologue to the first story.

"The battle of Crux Prime was long and hard. Every minifigure had to fight for their lives against the continuous onslaught of Maelstrom. The factions faced the new threat of evolved enemies, featuring twice as much health and damage. There was no question that the Maelstrom invasion was getting more and more serious as time went on. The minifigures won the battle and competed Nexus Tower. It was a happy ending. But did you think about what would have happened if Crux Prime had been lost...?"

Lego Universe Battle Landscape

This is another Photoshop edited picture that I made, it has the four faction leaders being chased out by the maelstrom as it invades the city of... I don't know what the place in the background is. Hope you like it!

How to Build the Fire Brawl! (and build like LU programmers!)

There is another instructional release on how to build an upcoming in-game set in your property, LDD, or at home! It teaches you how to build the Fire Brawler, one of the new race cars coming to Lego Universe. There is also some great news with LDD! Version 4.1 is now ready for you to download! I don't know what the new version is like (since I tend not to use LDD, and I haven't downloaded v4.1 yet). However, the one main new feature is this: "This means that you now have access to the LEGO Universe palette of bricks, which is used every day by our own Builders!". Apparently with the new version you can use the same colors that actual Lego Universe programmers use. Pretty exciting! You can download v4.1 of LDD here:

 v4.1 LDD

Have fun with it!

I also have a link to the .pdf instructions on how to build the Fire Brawl. Click here for it!

REAL Photoshop edits! (As promised)

What the developers on the Maelstrom side of the battle posted for Nexus Tower.

Hello Everyone!

I'm not sure if you remember the older post of pictures that I "Photoshopped" using Microsoft Word, but I promised that there would be more coming. However, the new edited photos I am making are actually products of the REAL Photoshop. I bought Adobe's Creative Suite 5 (with the student discount, NO WAY I could afford it without the student discount!). The above picture was my first Lego Universe picture I made, and I think it turned out pretty good! You can see some minor mistakes in it, but oh well. Be prepared for more! Coming soon!

Also in line to be added to the site:

1. Flash content with Adobe Flash Catalyst
2. Animation
3. My very own template made using Adobe Dreamweaver.

New Clan...New Forum

Sorry for the lack of updates this weekend, but it was for a good cause! I was busy making a forum for a new clan I am starting. The name of the clan is Eternal Nexus. Eternal Nexus is committed to fighting the maelstrom wherever it may be! The clan is incredibly open, allowing all players to add rules, change dates and times, change the ranking system, and start their own group. It is a fantastic forum, and now all I need are people to start posting on it! Join the forum here, it doesn't take long and you will able to have a say in what happens in the clan. Plus, the first person to join gets an automatic rank up to "Eternal Nexus First Recruit" the third highest rank in the chain! This rank is second only to moderator and administrator. Can't wait to see you there!

Welcome to Paradise-Nimbus Isle!

So, you thought Avant Grove was pretty big, huh? You haven't seen a big property until you've seen Nimbus Isle. Nimbus Isle is supposed to be even larger than Avant Grove, and have many more building oppurtunities plus a great view of a calming ocean. What more could you ask for? I know, I know, there's still a lot of stuff you could ask for in a property. But for now, this is the best you can get. Read this letter from the community staff to all of the 'adventurers' in Lego Universe. And most importantly, have fun building at Nimbus Isle! I know I will!

-Zorkonian12

Adventurers,

The Property Guards need your help!

A new, uncharted island was just spotted near Nimbus Station by Property Guard Bud Nippit! Since he discovered the island, he has earned the honor of naming this new area – and he chose Nimbus Isle! Quite fitting, isn’t it?

Nimbus Isle is a larger-sized Property than Nimbus Rock – some might say it is comparable to the size of Avant Grove! Brave Bud Nippit insisted on being the first to explore Nimbus Isle, to make sure it is a fitting habitat for Minifigures. We’ve just received a report from him that Nimbus Isle is swarming with Stromling Mechs, Stromling Admirals and Dark Ronin. Apparently, they are trying to build a monument to the Darkitect out of some rubble, but luckily for us, they are really lousy at building and just watch rocks roll off each other.

Bud Nippit reports further that although Nimbus Isle is filled with the Maelstrom, he sees potential for great beauty and peace on Nimbus Isle. Nimbus Isle has a premium oceanic view –which he assures us will be sure to inspire builders and visitors alike!

Meanwhile, Property Guards stationed in Nimbus Station are working tirelessly to build a Rocket Launch Pad to Nimbus Isle. As soon as this Launch Pad is ready, please, won’t you help Bud Nippit who is bravely facing the Maelstrom alone? We’re told that the new Launch Pad will be found in Brick Annex, on the path towards Pet Cove’s launcher.

While you wait for the finishing touches to the Launch Pad, discuss this article and your new Property ideas on the message boards!

Can You Handle Dragonmaw Chasm?

As promised by the developers, Dragonmaw Chasm Raceway will be opening to the public sometime around this week. An official date has not been said, however the news on it was posted on the Community site, so you know it will be coming very soon. The race track in Forbidden Valley will be THE toughest race track in the Lego Universe, and you will need lots of skill to race on it and win. It takes you through glowing dragon eggs, where you have to dodge the mother's fireballs, then up and around the great tree on a steep and winding track, across wooden tracks, down into canyons, and around the refinery. The track is like a highly dangerous, life threatening, adrenaline pumping, scenic tour through Forbidden Valley. Whoever thought of combining a scenic tour and life threatening roads was genius. :)

Some of you may remember the post on "Ultimate Lego Universe Weapons!" where I gave you the link and the club code to see concept art for the two-handed weapons. I was recently told by a friend (his username is smashed, look for him on LU) that some official information has been extracted from the game files and posted on Lego Universe Wiki. All of the information that I am about to share was taken from the Lego Universe Wiki site. You can also expect some new faction kits that are going to be really awesome, although not much information has been released on them. The Startling Secrets behind Bob's Past

Bob's a helpful guy right? He's the guy who gave you imagination and tells you good job whenever your double jumping across a bridge, or moving the camera around the to get a good view of the waterfall. Apparently he is not so helpful as he seems...

Bob's secrets have been unveiled. Many stories have been made about what Bob now does after he helped the minifigures out of the Venture Explorer. Don't be fooled by his always smiling face. Behind that smile is the evil of the Darkitect! Recent intelligence reports prove that Bob has another, less helpful, life behind the scenes. Bob went to the Venture Explorer to try and follow Sky Lane around. He had... er... special feelings. But when Sky Lane couldnt keep her eyes off of Epsilon Starcracker, Bob fell into despair. He was offered a job by the seduction of the evil Darkitect and he took it in order to make vengeance on Sky Lane. Bob, in return, gained immortality. This explains why he was able to stay on board on the Venture Explorer and help other minifigures escape (and also flag them down by taking his arm off). The most startling secret is, he has implanted a tracking device on every single minifigure he has helped! This means he is watching you... every single step you take... even right now... O_O

April Race Car Challenge!

As seen on the schedule of contests for April (schedule), the first one to appear is the build your own race car challenge! This challenge is incredibly open to all of your ideas. The one most important part you must have though, is the chassis (directions on how to build). You must base your car off of the chassis. Otherwise, it would be too big or too small! You can build your car in a variety of environments. You can build it on your own property, in LDD, and even on your own living room floor. Just make sure to upload your creation to the creation lab. The prizes are based on the new NXT Robot collection from Lego. It comes with the full set and two other sensors for enhancing your robots capabilities. Good luck to everyone in the contest, and happy building!

Nimbus Station Racing Tips!

Hi Everyone!

Since most of you know that next month will be all about racing competitions, I made a video on some of the skills that I use to help me get first place (Before they erased the scores, I had a 15-1 win-loss ratio). These are some good tips that will really help you take some seconds off your time. Most of them are obvious, but some of them are new. Enjoy!
