April Race Car Challenge!

As seen on the schedule of contests for April (schedule), the first one to appear is the build your own race car challenge! This challenge is incredibly open to all of your ideas. The one most important part you must have though, is the chassis (directions on how to build). You must base your car off of the chassis. Otherwise, it would be too big or too small! You can build your car in a variety of environments. You can build it on your own property, in LDD, and even on your own living room floor. Just make sure to upload your creation to the creation lab. The prizes are based on the new NXT Robot collection from Lego. It comes with the full set and two other sensors for enhancing your robots capabilities. Good luck to everyone in the contest, and happy building!

Another item from the loading screen will be coming this month also. Faction racing cars! Buy these awesome cars from your faction vendor and join the racing competitions with your support for your faction! And finally, there will be new Safari models being sold by Autumn Helix in Brick Annex for you to decorate your Nimbus Isle property with. Nimbus Isle!
Property Guard, Bud Nippit, needs your help to clear the biggest and newest Property: Nimbus Isle! Head over to Brick Annex to find the Rocket Launch Pad, located across from Rad Eccles. That’s right! You will be able to place your beloved Pets on your Property! If you summon your Pet on your Property, your Pet will behave as it would anywhere else. The real magic happens when you place your Pet on your Property while in the Place Models mode! Now you can apply Behaviors, set Movement and even change the name of your Pet! Don’t worry, if you ever want your plastic companion back at your side in battle, you can always return the Pet model to your backpack. That is, unless you break your Pet model down in Brick mode! If you do, be ready to say sayonara to Fido.

There is so much in store. Stay tuned for the latest news and updates!

These are some good tips that will really help you take some seconds off your time. Most of them are obvious, but some of them are new. Enjoy!

April Contest Calendar!

Hi Everyone!

Ready for some awesome new contests this month? You better be, because there will a whole bunch of new contests. Remember how March was nicknamed "Battle Month" because of all of the battle themed challenges? April is now "Racing Month"! Get ready to race your heart out around the Lego Universe worlds to compete to win awesome prizes. Want to see exactly which contest will be coming and when? Check out the list below:

April 1 – April 30 Build a Race Car!
The April monthly contest will shoot us off to a flying start! Submit a picture of your finest race car to Creation Lab – whether you’ve built it in LEGO Universe, in LEGO Digital Designer or at home on your living room floor. Later this week we will post instruction on how to build a chassis for inspiration, but remember: anything goes, as long as it looks legendary! Up for grabs are LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0 Sets.

April 9 – April 10 Vertigo Loop Racetrack Grand Prix
Many Minifigures know the Nimbus Station racetrack like their own backyard, so competition is going to be fierce! Tip: Get under your fellow racers by placing yourself on the inside of a sharp turn, brake by hitting Shift and make a ninja-fast inside pass! Win LEGO World Racers for your efforts.

April 16 – April 17 Keelhaul Canyon Racetrack Grand Prix
Fill your mirrors with Minifigures in hot pursuit on the Gnarled Forest racetrack! Watch out for Maelstrom whirlwinds and infected crates, and rooster tails of dirt from the Cars in front. Friendly pushing and shoving is allowed! LEGO Creator cars are at stake!

April 23 – April 24 Race Car Screenshot Contest
Snap a screenshot of your best moment on the tracks and submit it to Creation Lab. Or show us the most rocking race car you’ve assembled in-game! The 20 best submissions will win dizzying LEGO Ninjago prizes such as the Turbo Shredder and Nuckal’s ATV!

April 30 – May 1 Mystery Racetrack Grand Prix
You will be pushing the pedal to the metal somewhere in LEGO Universe... The location is still unknown, but stay posted on LEGOuniverse.com/community! For now, rest assured - it is not going to be easy, but it will be fun! LEGO City Sets will be yours if you win!

"Unknown Soldier"-LUMV

The latest music video production from Zorkonian12 Production Studios. This video is a combination of self-recorded and pre-recorded videos. I also experimented with a few more effects to add to the video. I hope you like them! (Not all of the song was used in this video)

Music: "Unknown Soldier"-Breaking Benjamin

Lyrics and Song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKraLVrGzys

Video not showing? Don't worry, on the worst days it will usually take up 45 seconds to load. Sorry for the inconvience.

The Mysterious Floating Coin...

Earlier today (around 3:00 PM) I was walking through the caverns of Avant Gardens when a coin just pops up above my head. I had never heard of this glitch before so I stopped to take a picture at the Avant Garden launch area for proof of it happening. It was there that I discovered it looks exactly like the vendor coins that float above THEIR heads. Pretty cool huh?

I also decided to play some sort of prank on people who came by, by sitting down near all of the other vendors and doing nothing else. 2 or 3 people actually came up to me in an attempt to buy goods. haha!

I wanted to go show the usual large crowd in Nimbus Station the glitch (and see if it had been found before) but apparently using the rocket gets rid of the glitch... :( I didn't get a chance to really show anybody, but it was still cool while it lasted.

Have you had this experience before? If you have, tell people about it in the comments section.

The Battle of Nimbus Station Needs You! Again!

The developers have brought back a contest used earlier this month! The Battle Of Nimbus Station Contest. Same rules, same game, different prizes. If you didn't win last time, now is your chance for payback (or something like that)! Play in the epic battle this weekend to show your skills and luck. The prizes are worth trying for.

Here is the official article straight from Lego's Community Site:

So you proved in the last Battle of Nimbus Station that you can take on a few Stromlings. And the occasional Stromling Mech. And maybe even a Dark Spiderling or two. But how about the dreaded Hammer Stromling Murgle Blotch, or the almighty Maelstrom Ape Kinga Hurl? Show what you are made of, team up with your fellow Nexus Force combatants and have a rematch with all the Maelstrom infected creatures in the Battle of Nimbus Station this weekend!
Let’s end Battle Month in LEGO Universe with a big Ka-Pow of a battle! This weekend, March 26 and March 27, finish 29 waves of enemies in the Battle of Nimbus Station mini-game for a chance to win some smashing LEGO Castle and LEGO Kingdoms prizes!
Granted, you are not time travelling all the way back to the Middle Ages, but time-twist your way to the Battle of Nimbus Station, and defend Nimbus Station against the Maelstrom onslaught!
Winning will be based on a combination of skill and luck. Make it through 29 waves of Maelstrom in the Battle of Nimbus Station mini-game to qualify. We will randomly draw 20 players from everyone who qualifies, across all three servers (Overbuild, Storm and Exeter).

Are you ready for this?

It's all about teamwork!

Teamwork seems to be a pretty big part of being successful in Lego Universe. In order to boost your abilities you need to learn how to work as a team. You should also be careful about who your pick to be on your team (but dont purposefully exclude someone). The people you have on your team can make a big difference on how long you last. Team members can support each other by regenerating armor, health, and imagination. Remember though, only certain factions can regenerate a certain type of stat point so this is where choosing wisely comes in. Soon, the developers claim that there will be a whole new set of abilities to use while battling as a team. Some of them include boosting the whole teams running speed, and keeping enemies locked up in a certain position. How cool would that be?

For more information on fighting with teams, click on this link here. Have fun!

Build your own Starskull Rocket!

Don't like the colors of your basic starskull rocket? What if you could make your own color scheme for your own rocket? Now you can! On your property... that's right, we will have to keep waiting for the ability for a fully customized rocket to take you to different worlds. But looking at a custom rocket is still fun right? Here is a letter from Mardolf the Orange explaining to build your own skeleton rocket and customize it!

Many of you have already collected the Skeleton Rockets to fly around in. My old eyes had never seen bones used as building material before! It is interesting indeed, that something so primitive could be used to create something so advanced. Did you know the skeleton rockets are built from the bones of Skeleton Miners? How dreadful! Still, the construction is quite clever. I was contemplating riding one (for testing purposes only, of course), but the purple would clash terribly with my orange robes. That just will not do.
Then it hit me. I could build a Starskull Rocket for my very own, in a dashing orange! I began my research to reverse engineer the rocket immediately. Since you adventurers have been tirelessly collecting bones from Crux Prime for me, I have decided to share my findings on how to recreate the Starskull Rocket with you. Below, you will find all the parts necessary to build your own Starskull Rocket, either on your Property or with any bricks you may have collected in your own home. If you are like me, you can make your own color adjustments to customize the rocket or you can stay true to the color scheme to build a completely accurate replica.
Download my research paper on how to recreate the Starskull Rocket here, but be sure to check with your parents first!

Fare thee well,
Mardolf the Orange

Taking screenshots in Lego Universe

Taking screenshots seems to be a highly confusing and difficult process for some people. Here is an article that I have copied from an earlier post on this blog explaining how to take screenshots. I hope this helps you with your screenshot troubles!

Want to know how to take a screenshot? I have found two ways to do it. One shorter, one longer. Follow these instructions:

Longer way:

1. To take a screenshot, press the key labeled "Prt Scr" or "Print Screen".
2. Although nothing will happen, the image is being saved to your clipboard (which is where everything you copy and paste goes).
3. Open MS Paint (or any other photo editing software) and select "paste from clipboard" in the top right of MS Paint.
4. The image is now on your canvas! You can save this image as whatever you want, and then post it on the Creation Lab site.

Shorter way (this is ideal if you are going to be taking more screenshots in the future):

1. Download an image/video capturing software such as WeGame (search for it on Google)
2. Set up an account with them and then open the game.
3. You can set up picture and video hotkeys (such as F7 and F9) to take pictures faster.
4. When you take a picture, it is automatically saved to your main hard drive. This eliminates multiple steps in the print screen process.

Best Team Moment Screenshot Contest

Do you think you work well as a team with your other minifigures? Maybe you think your team is so cool, so awesome, and so powerful, that you would be able to win a contest? If you do, this contest is for you! Take a screenshot of your team doing whatever you want. Just make sure that every single person in your team is in the picture. Then, add the photo to the creation lab and add the names of everyone on your team in the description. For more information on this contest, click here.

This contest holds some very cool prizes. They are mainly based on Hero Factory Sets, so this is a good contest to enter for all of your Hero Factory fans. Here is a list of their prizes:

"What I've Done"-LUMV

My latest (and greatest) music video that I have made. I just upgraded from Windows Live MovieMaker to PowerDirector 9 Ultra which allows to me to do a whole lot more effects, transitions, titles, etc. Please enjoy!

A new, higher resolution video has been added as of 3:35 PM today. This should give you a better a picture and more frames per second (smoother playback).

All videos and music used in this video are still copyrighted by their respectable owners. All profitable use of the materials is punishable under law.

Must-Have Weapons!

The LEGO Community site has released a list of the five most impresssive weapons availible in Lego Universe. It also provides a small look into the powers of two-handed weapons. Take a look at their list below, or follow this link for pictures and more information:

5. Witch's Surf-Broom
Do you prefer one big stylish bang? A unique item, the Witch’s Surf-Broom is an item like the Everlasting Hot Dog. A consumable that doesn’t expire! When you use the Witch’s Surf-Broom, you’ll start surfing on a broomstick, charge forward and knock down your enemy for 20 points of damage. 20. You read that right. Surfing, knock down and 20 points of damage? And you can do it all over again in just a few seconds? Yes, please! All you have to do to get the Witch’s Surf-Broom is complete “The Four Riders Timesmash 2” achievement! Team up with your friends and defeat the Four Riders of the Maelstrom in the Battle of Nimbus Station in less than 18 minutes and you can surf around with all your friends!

4. Exceptional Pea Shooter
Are you more of a support player? Do you think that smarts and strategy are more powerful than the strongest weapons? Check out the Exceptional Pea Shooter. Those who take advantage of this smart little weapon understand one thing: It’s not all about maximum damage. You need strategy (and a good laugh!) to work with a team. The EPS is a 2+2+2 weapon –but that’s not the best part. Using your imagination to launch lethal peas, you can knock down and chain stun enemies! Really, enough said. Go out and buy one from the Wandering Chef in Crux Prime now!

3. Heroic Trident of Lightning
Are your fingers itching for something more powerful than peas? How does the idea of harnessing the power of lightning sound? Are you ready for that kind of power? Are you ready for… the Heroic Trident of Lightning? This 3+3+4 piercing weapon alone is great, but the trident also has a great charge up power! Take a quick second to charge up and call down the power of lightning to strike nearby enemies! Where can you get this kind of power? The Heroic Trident of Lightning is a random drop from enemies in Crux Prime! There are tons of hidden goodies in the enemies’ backpacks, so keep smashing, maybe you’ll get lucky!

2. Spark Thrower
Is defeating the Maelstrom not good enough for you? Do you need to battle with spark and pizzazz? Check out the Spark Thrower! Chock-full of damage and sparks, the Spark Thrower will deal damage every second until you run out of Imagination! Throw down a fountain of Imagination, pull out the Spark Thrower and watch the sparks fly! You can find the Spark Thrower as a random drop from enemies in Crux Prime. It’s a rarity level of 3, so you may have to hunt for a while to find one, but it’s well worth the hunt!

1. Savage Club
Do you dream of being simply impressive? The Savage Club may just be the weapon for you! This bad boy has some serious power –not to mention it looks fierce! A 3+4+4 weapon that is so huge and powerful it requires both hands to wield! Where can you get one of these for your very own? The Savage Club is an achievement reward for “The Curse of Whack Bliddo – Tier 2” Achievement! Time twist back to the Battle of Nimbus Station to get started on this Passport mission!

These were just a small handful of our favorite weapons. What are yours? Discuss this article and your favorite weapons on the message boards!

I recently got my hands on a copy of Microsoft Office Suite 2010 Professional, so I decided to see what new features it had. The one, most awesome feature that I found was this; Word can photoshop! (almost)

The new Microsoft Word photo changing effects are amazing. That's why I made these for you guys to enjoy! They are some of LEGO's advertising images that I distorted. Take a look:

This is the original "Great Minifig Mission" picture
This is what it would look like as a sketch

I added some water color/oil effects to it. Almost looks like it was painted!

This is fun and cool effect I found, that gives everything a great glow.
This is the one I think is most impressive. I turned one of the LU Beta loading screens into a sketch, making it look exactly like it was created by a concept artist!

Thanks for looking, and if you have any requests for me to recolor, just post a comment asking. I might bring more back onto the blog soon.

Sorting Models in your Backpack

Have you ever wanted to quickly get to a model without going through every single other model?

Here’s how you can:
1. First, open your backpack.
2. Then you have to go to your models tab
3. Click the “+” in the left hand corner of your backpack.
4. After that, click the tiny “+ Add New” at the bottom of the orange screen, and you’ll get to name your new group of models.
5. Drag the models you need from your backpack into your new bucket.
6. Now you have a new bucket that you can use to quickly find your models.

And if you want to organize even more of your models, just do this process again. It's not that hard!

You can call it a music video or a tribute video, whatever you want to call it. And for all of you who have not figured it out yet, LUMV stands for Lego Universe Music Video.

Mech Bay Warehouse

The Mech Bay Warehouse is an Avant Grove property I have been working on. It should be approved today (3/2/11). The property features an automatic door opening bot, a warehouse, two sonar seats, and a massive generator. The entire property was built from more than 50,000 coins worth of bricks and models. If you are interested, you can stop by by searching for Zorkonian12 or Mech Ware House in the Avant Grove property search box. Thanks, and please send a mail card on how you liked it!

Robot City

Copied from the Lego Universe Patcher
Robot City's launch pad is located in Starbase 3001 and it has a great environment. While it is a very small world, there are really cool characters and models to look at and interact with. There are 3 missions (Standard for World Builder League worlds), and each one gives you a piece of a rocket. The final rocket will shaped like the robot citizens that live there.

The storyline for Robot City is that a maelstrom infected NXT has taken control of some of the citizens and you need to get rid of the infected citizens. While you are there, you can get a good view from the top of the Robot Statue and play around in Central Park. Team DeerBite from the WBL has already announced they are making plans to add a new section to Robot City, making a more exciting world.

Be sure to go there and get the new rocket available!
